Robbins, Clark & Biddle large sterling silver 4-piece tea set in repousse pattern from the 1870s with exquisite floral and cartouche motifs, consisting of:

- a tea pot measuring 11 3/4'' in height by 10'' from handle to spout

- a coffee pot measuring 12'' in height by 10 3/4'' from handle to spout

- a waste bowl, which is gilt inside, measuring 6 3/4'' in height by 6 1/2'' in diameter at the widest point

- a Canfield & Co. coin silver two-handled sugar bowl measuring 10 1/4'' in height with the cover (8'' without) by 8 1/2'' from handle to handle

Total weight is 123.8 troy ounces. Each piece bears hallmarks and monograms as shown. 

From 1870 to 1876, Samuel Biddle was in partnership with Jeremiah Robbins and Jedediah P. Clark in Philadelphia as Robbins, Clark & Biddle. Starting in 1878, Samuel Biddle, together with Joseph Trowbridge Bailey and George Washington Banks, established Bailey, Banks & Biddle. At the turn of the century, Bailey Banks & Biddle was commissioned by the U.S. government to update the Great Seal of the United States; its design today remains the official version of the seal.
