S. Kirk & Son sterling silver child or christening mug. made between 1868 and 1890, in repousse style with ornate floral and natural motifs adorning the body. It measures 3 1/8'' in height by 2 1/2'' in diameter at the top, weighs 3.7 troy ounces, and bears hallmarks as shown. 

Baltimore’s prominent silver manufacturing company, Samuel Kirk & Son, dates its beginning to 1815. Just 5 years later, Maria Hester Monroe, daughter of President James Monroe, was married in the White House. She chose Kirk Mayflower as her silverware pattern. During this early period Kirk introduced to America the repousse treatment for silverware.
